ID is a book about Indonesia – a book about identity.
Oliver Wrobel, himself born half German, half Indonesian and Alexa went on a quest to understand what it would be like to leave Europe for good. The book introduces a manifold selection of individuals: from journalists to priests and philosophers, aristocrats, hostel-owners, NGO-members – Indo-Germans, who report back on Indonesia and their view on Germany from a distance.
The Interviews reveal decisions like changing one’s name of birth and giving up the german citizenship for good. They even tell of not that difficult negotiations with the Hamas Movement and of being one of the last living persons speaking the old Javanese language.
